India won their much-awaited second T20 World Cup trophy in a nail-biting final against South Africa, with just 7-run margin under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. The win ended a 13 years wait, as Team India had lifted their last ICC trophy back in 2011. Fans across the world celebrated the victory on streets and hailed the Men in Blue for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament. The celebration reached new heights, as passengers aboard an Air India plane cheered for India. A viral video captured the moment when passengers on the A350 flight received the news of India’s win 35,000 feet above the ground.
A passenger on flight captured the special moment when a flight attendant announced that India had won the World Cup against South Africa. As her announcement came to an end, the video shows numerous passengers applauding while the flight was illuminated with Tricolour lights. Sharing the clip on Instagram, the user wrote, “Air India celebrating the victory at the world cup at 35000ft on A1591 A350. Big Day for us finally.”
Reacting to the post, a user noted, “Who takes a flight on such an important day.”
Another shared, “I was at 32000 ft when India lifted the ODI world cup. I still remember the Jet airways captain announcing ‘We are the Champions’.”
“Wow the Tricolour interior looks great,” a comment read.
Another wrote, “Proud feeling indeed.”
An individual wondered, “why am I getting goosebumps. (Why am I getting goosebumps?)”
One more added, “I wish and hope the same josh will be there for all Indian sports.”
A similar celebration was recorded on an Air Vistara flight to London, where passengers celebrated India’s victory while watching the match live on a laptop using the flight’s WiFi. According to the X post, the aircraft was cruising at 40,000 feet when the Men in Blue lifted the trophy.
Sharing the video, the user wrote, “Team India’s win of the T20 World Cup 2024 being celebrated 40,000 ft in the air on an Air Vistara flight enroute London. My friend (in yellow watching the match on his laptop) just sent me this. You have got to love in-flight WiFi.”
Following the win against South Africa, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20 format.
