Initially, a few snakes were noticed in Kaiser’s sweet shop, which quickly escalated into a larger discovery prompting urgent action.

Residents of Basbari Haat in Bihar’s Kishanganj district were in for a shocking sight as 25-30 king cobras were found emerging from a local sweet shop, transforming the area into what locals now refer to as ‘Cobra Colony’. The incident occurred under Bahadurganj block, known for its pleasant weather akin to Darjeeling. However, with the onset of the monsoon, the tranquility was disrupted by the appearance of poisonous snakes in public spaces. Initially, a few snakes were noticed in Kaiser’s sweet shop, which quickly escalated into a larger discovery prompting urgent action.

Local authorities were alerted and snake charmers were summoned to handle the situation. Over the course of three to four hours, they meticulously captured and secured the 25-30 cobras in plastic containers, averting any potential harm to residents or customers. Eyewitnesses described scenes of astonishment and fear as the cobras, known for their deadly venom, were carefully removed from the premises. Despite the alarming nature of the incident, there were no reports of injuries or casualties.

Speaking on the matter, a seasoned snake charmer expressed surprise at finding such a large number of cobras in a seemingly unlikely place like a sweet shop. He emphasized the need for caution during the monsoon season, advising residents to promptly seek medical help in case of snake bites.
