World Drug Day serves to heighten awareness about drug abuse and combat the illegal drug trade.
One can trust Mumbai police to come up with some of the most innovative ways to spread awareness. Most recently, the law enforcement agency shared a message against drug abuse with a poignant graphic. The simple graphic showed a close-up of a person presumingly injecting drugs in one’s arm. Over this close-up, there was a Venn diagram. The three parts of the diagram read, “Vein, Die, Gram”. The post signaled how injecting drugs can often be fatal. While sharing this caption, the Mumbai Police wrote, “Don’t let your life go in vain with these unwanted intersections.”
Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “Mumbai police social media is unmatched.” Another person wrote, “The social media team needs to be given a public award! Super creative posts.” One of the most liked comments on the post hinted that the graphic could look like an anti-vaccination poster. This comment simply read, “Anti Vaccine post?”
This post was made for the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day. World Drug Day aims to raise awareness against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. As per a 2019 report by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, about 8.5 lakh people inject drugs, this figure can also be bigger. About 1.18 crore people use sedatives for non-medical reasons. India is in dire need of awareness about drug abuse and action against the drug trade.
Earlier this month, Mumbai Police tapped into the Bridgerton Season 3 hype and created a series of posts on road safety. The post showed a graphic of a seat belt next to a romantic line that said, “I will stand with you between heaven and the Earth.” Another graphic showed a traffic light post with the text, “Just keep looking at me, no one else matters.” The graphic of a helmet came with the show’s popular dialogue, “You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires.”
This post was captioned, “Dearest Gentle Reader, We need our most distinguished members of the ton to be vigilant, lest you face a traffic tangle! If a commotion arises, rest assured, we shall uncover every detail.” This post got over 50,000 likes. Netflix India also commented on it and wrote, “There is but one thing that humbles even the most highly regarded members of our dear ton…a traffic violation!”
