Contrary to popular belief, they didn’t back India, but South Africa, to win this year’s tournament. This prediction has been met with scepticism, as passionate Indian fans can’t help but voice their disagreement.
So, what led Iceland Cricket to make such a daring prediction? Back in April, when Iceland Cricket forecasted that the Proteas would lift the T20 trophy, many dismissed it as fanciful thinking. After all, South Africa had yet to overcome their infamous semi-final jinx. Now, Iceland Cricket is cheekily reminding everyone of their earlier prediction.

In a recent post, they shared, “People laughed in April 2024 when we said SA would win the T20 World Cup. They are still laughing, but nervously,” along with a screenshot of their reply to England’s Barmy Army, boldly stating, “South Africa are going to win the T20 World Cup.”
Known for their quirky posts and sense of humour, Iceland Cricket’s prediction didn’t sit well with Indian fans. Many took to the comment section to express their confidence in an Indian victory. One fan remarked, “Iceland are always poking random thoughts and hence irrelevant in cricket World,” Another warned, “If India loses in the final which is highly unlikely to happen, I warn you Indians won’t let you survive here on this platform . Never make such wild predictions again.” A third quipped, “I think even South Africa would have laughed at this,” and the banter continued.
