A father in China has come under the radar for asking his daughter to fill a bowl with her tears, as a form of punishment for watching television. The three-year-old daughter tried her best to complete the task but was unable to do so. The video of the incident has reportedly gone viral on China’s exclusive social media app, Douyin. The viral clip shows that a girl was holding a bowl while trying to squeeze the tears from her eyes, as her mother and father looked on. Netizens criticised this harsh treatment of the father in China. They said that such extreme punishments help in developing negative traits in the kids.
As per report, the incident happened last month when the father who lives in Yulin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China was preparing supper and asked her daughter to join them at the dining table for dinner. The three-year-old daughter named Jiajia didn’t hear her father as she was engrossed in watching the television.
An enraged father rushed towards his daughter and switched off the television. The daughter burst into tears. He then bought a big empty bowl and said, “You can watch TV again when your tears fill up this bowl”, as quoted in the report. Watching her angry father, she immediately picked up the bowl and started squeezing tears from her face. After a few seconds, she told her parents that her hands were exhausted from holding the bowl. She reportedly said, “It is impossible for me to manage this task”. After hearing this response, her father asked her to smile for him. The image of the girl smiling with tears on her face amused her parents. The video which was supposed to be adorable made netizens furious.
While many said that Jiajia was an adorable kid, others called her parents for this harsh punishment. One of the users harshly criticised the father by saying that the same could happen to him in the future. “When you are old and cannot take care of yourself, your daughter will give you a bowl and tell you to fill it with your tears before you can have food,” wrote one of the users.
