A viral video of an Italian influencer’s chickpea bread recipe has reminded Indian social media users of the popular desi snack, dhokla. The spongey Gujarati snack, made with chickpea flour, is relished by foodies. In the video shared on Instagram., the Italian vlogger can be seen grinding chickpeas, an egg, and some flour using a mixer, to form a paste. He then microwaves the mixture for 4 minutes. Once done, the vlogger cuts the freshly baked bread into burger buns, stuffing them with tomatoes, Italian prosciutto meat, burrata cheese and, some other ingredients. Ta-da! It’s ready.
The video was shared along with a post that read, “If you are looking for a quick and healthy lunch, my super easy bread made with just chickpeas from a can and one egg is what you were looking for! Did I tell you that it is ready in just 5 minutes?”
“I always make this bread and use it to make a sandwich when I don’t have time to cook but I still want to enjoy a nice meal! I usually make my sandwich with fresh rocket, tomatoes, prosciutto and burrata and I always drizzle a good amount of olive oil to make it,” the vlogger added.
As soon as the video gained traction online, social media compared the “chickpea bread” to our beloved dhokla. “That’s a fraud brother,” commented one of the users.
Another person humorously wrote, “Dhokla goes to Italy.”
A section of people was also impressed with the Italian vlogger’s cooking skills.
An individual heaped praises on him saying, “No way this works! Nice thing, I will try.”
