Mumbai Rains: Journalist thanks taxi drivers who aided her through waterlogged roads in viral post.
Mumbai and its surrounding areas were drenched as rain poured down in torrents over the past 24 hours, leading to widespread waterlogging and chaos in suburban train services. The downpour wreaked havoc, causing delays for officegoers and servicemen who found themselves stranded in waterlogged streets. Amidst the challenging situation, a journalist couldn’t help but express her gratitude to two heroic taxi drivers who came to her aid, showcasing the undying spirit of Mumbai even amidst the turmoil.
Sharing her experience on ‘X’, Latha Venkatesh, the executive director of CNBC-TV18, wrote, “Deeply grateful to 2 taxidrivers who helped out in the rains today.” She recounted how the first driver rescued her and three others stranded outside Sion Hospital and took them to the Plaza, refusing any payment. “I had to force a 100 rupee note. He forced me to take back Rs50,” she shared.

She continued, “Another cabbie drove me from Plaza to Worli. The meter read Rs 91. I gave a 100 and requested him not to return the change. Again he forced me to take back Rs10,” she wrote, ending on a touching note: “Such humaneness and honesty, from people who can less afford it! God bless you!”

I wish such culture is replicated at Delhi NCR, Chennai specifically.”
A fourth compared it to Bengaluru, stating, “Why is it that cabbies in mumbai are so honest & in blr so dishonest? In Bangalore auto guys will not use the meters and typically will easily charge you 1.5x of normal fares. and 2-3x when its raining heavily. Generally I have seen in Mumbai they will hand back 2-3rs of change also.”
