A section of Bengaluru Football Stadium collapsed during the live Chief Minister’s Cup, which left six spectators injured.
A section of Bengaluru Football Stadium (BFS) collapsed on July 21, injuring at least 6 spectators during the Chief Minister’s Cup. The incident has brought attention to the stadium’s imminent renovations, which have been neglected for over eight years. It happened during the match between Shanthi Nagar MLA Constituency and CV Raman Nagar MLA Constituency, one of the main stands collapsed. A video of the accident has been circulating online, showing the dramatic moment when the stand unexpectedly came crashing down.
According to the Times of India, the Karnataka State Football Association (KFSA) stated that the collapse occurred when a group of boys gathered on the ramp but assured that none of the injuries were severe. However, local hospitals where the victims were treated report otherwise, indicating that some injuries may be more serious.
In a conversation with the news agency, a hospital source said, “We attended to six persons at the outpatient department as they were rushed here following an accident at the football stadium on Sunday. One of them had suffered a fracture of a finger but all of them were discharged after treatment.”
The X page sharing the video of the collapse wrote, “BFS Stand collapse video clip. Shame. Serious injuries to some, I hear.”
Reacting to the video, a user wrote, “Shame such thing can happen in BFS stadium which is supposed to be home to the upcoming budding football players.”

Speaking about the incident, an eyewitness present at the BFS explained to TOI, “Thousands of fans had turned up to watch the final between Shanti Nagar and CV Raman Nagar. It was a carnival atmosphere as spectators from both the assembly constituencies packed the stands. Fans were injured when a part of the front portion crashed. The match was interrupted for a while even as the fans were rescued and taken to the hospital.”
A spokesperson from KSFA mentioned to the news outlet that the stadium urgently needs renovation. Responsible authorities have been trying to rebuild the stadium since 2017, they stated. The representative further mentioned that the president of KSFA, NA Haris, who is also the chairman of the Bengaluru Development Authority, is positive that the renovation work will begin soon.
