Narayana Murthy triggered controversy last year when he said that India should have a 70-hour work week.
The Labour Party has returned to power with a landslide victory in the United Kingdom general elections. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak resigned from his post on Friday after his Conservative Party faced humiliating defeat by securing only 121 seats out of 650. Keir Starmer, who led the Labour Party to a resounding victory, has become the new PM of the United Kingdom.
Even though Sunak managed to retain his constituency, Richmond and Northallerton, the former PM is facing a backlash online for the poll debacle of the Conservative Party. This has led to trolling of Sunak online over his father-in-law NR Narayana Murthy’s 70-hour work week remark.
Narayana Murthy triggered a controversy last year when he appeared on 3one4 Capital’s podcast The Record, and argued that in order to compete with countries like China, Indian youth must have a 70-hour work week. This means working 11.6 hours for six days, except Sunday.
Following these remarks, the billionaire Infosys co-founder was accused of promoting an unhealthy hustle culture. Additionally, many people also accused his company Infosys of underpaying employees.
Now Narayan Murthy’s remark has come to haunt Rishi Sunak. An X user poked fun at him and wrote, “Rishi Sunak is all set to lose the Prime Minister’s chair in the UK General Elections. Looks like he didn’t follow his father-in-law’s advice about working 70 hours a week.”

Another comment read, “Some very unreliable sources tell me that Rishi Sunak will now work 70 hours a day to drown his sorrows.”
