On hearing the good news, the woman hugs her son and breaks down in tears.

Becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) is highly coveted in India, with candidates required to pass the rigorous ICAI CA exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. People often spend years preparing for the converted exam and clearing it. Now, a video is going viral that shows a young man named Yogesh, meeting his mother and telling her about qualifying the CA exam. The undated video shows the woman, a roadside vegetable vendor, hugging her son and breaking down in tears.

This clip has gathered over 4 lakh views since it was shared on June 14. Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “It’s a lifelong struggle, even his son won’t understand it. The little to big sacrifices which parents usually make from the lower section of society are very difficult to understand as they hardly share emotions. Hope his son realizes & never abandons them in future.”

Another person observed, “Super emotional moment. Notice how sons in Indian families are not so used to physical touch within the family that the hug from his end is kind of awkward.”

An X user noted, “Every day I’m so very glad that the total cost of studying for CA is low compared to other courses and that there are very well deserved people like this who clear. Good luck champ. A very bright future lies ahead.”

Someone else wrote, “Education is the only way to uplift the lives of the middle class and our parents knew it all day long. That’s why they sacrificed daily for us and made sure we get proper chance to lift ourself to the next level. These are the stories, these are the results.”

This year, over 4 lakh students enrolled for the CA Foundation, Intermediate and Final Exams that were held in May 2024. This is reportedly the highest number of students appearing for exams in 75 years of history at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI ). As per the guidelines, the passing criteria for the CA final exam is that the candidates must achieve a minimum of 40 per cent marks in each subject and get an overall aggregate of at least 50 per cent.
