In a remarkable feat on World Plastic Surgery Day on July 15, Delhi’s prestigious RML Hospital achieved a groundbreaking milestone by conducting 24 plastic surgeries in just 24 hours. This achievement marks a significant departure from the norm, highlighting the expanding capabilities of government hospitals in the field of plastic surgery. Led by the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department, a dedicated team of 17 surgeons worked tirelessly in 24 operation theaters from July 15 to July 16. The marathon session not only restored quality of life to patients but also showcased the hospital’s readiness for complex medical procedures.
Dr Ajay Shukla, Medical Superintendent of RML Hospital, emphasized the importance of pushing boundaries in surgical capabilities across various departments such as surgery, anesthesia, and OT. This effort ensures preparedness to deliver top-notch medical care in emergencies. Among the procedures performed, notable cases included the successful transplantation of a new hand to a patient, the correction of facial injuries, and intricate eyebrow corrections through precise surgical techniques.
Dr Manoj Jha, Additional Director, highlighted the complexity of cases handled, including a delicate surgery where a patient’s toe was reattached to the hand. Dr Samik Bhattacharya, Professor and Director of the Department of Plastic Burn, Maxillofacial and Microvascular Surgery, praised the hospital’s commitment to enhancing patient care and readiness for critical situations.
